The first public conference on the systemic regulation of waste management in Slovenia

The National Council of the Republic of Slovenia together with the Slovenian Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning organized the first public conference on the systemic regulation of waste management on 13 February 2018. Dr Tatiana Bajuk Senčar, Invisible Life of Waste project researcher, attended the event.

The conference titled “Regulation of the Field of Waste Management: From Urgent to Systemic Solutions” was held before a full auditorium at the National Council and was the first public event of its kind open to all members of the interested public and stakeholders.  During the four-hour event, representatives of diverse actors involved in waste management and members of the interested public were given the opportunity to voice their opinion on the state of waste management in Slovenia, including local waste collection agencies, regional waste management centers, recycling companies, waste incineration centers, and ecological NGOs. Representatives of both organizers, National Council President Alojz Kovšca and Minister of the Environment and Spatial Planning Jure Leben, emphasized that a broad consensus was needed for the systemic legal regulation of waste management, as the ministry is drafting an umbrella law on waste, which will be submitted to the Slovenian Parliament by June 2019.
