The Invisible Life of Waste project presented in Melbourne

On 8 March, Dan Podjed presented the Invisible Life of Waste project in Melbourne, Australia. The presentation was part of the E-waste Workshop organised by Melisa Duque Hurtado, Research Fellow at the Monash University’s Emerging Technologies Research Lab (the lab is led by Sarah Pink). Podjed started his presentation with anthropologist Thomas Hylland Eriksen’s quote: “Show me your garbage, and I will tell you who you are. Show me how much waste you produce, and I will tell you what kind of society you live in.”

In the workshop, the participants aimed to create a space to share, discuss and speculate current and future e-waste possibilities and challenges. The topic responded to the upcoming e-waste ban from landfills by the Victorian Government from 1 July. The invited researchers and practitioners shared their work, interests, and concerns related to e-waste and tried to create a space for inspiring and critical conversations, from which future connections and possible collaboration could continue to emerge.
